The Industry brand concept is rooted in today's professional workforce—individuals seeking dynamic urban environments that support their lifestyles, careers, and community needs. The inviting and eclectic interior is intended to feel welcoming and reminiscent of a boutique hotel, creating an environment that is layered with design elements, furniture, and accessories.
As developer Charles Street Realty Partners expands the Industry brand into new markets, we at archall architects have had the opportunity to contribute to projects in Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Tallahassee, and Pittsburgh.
While each of the Industry properties is different due to their unique urban sites, they are unified through a consistent interior look and feel. Through our continued partnership with the Charles Street team, we've been able to work closely to develop the interior aesthetic.
archall architects provided full-service architecture, interior design, and furniture procurement services for Industry Pittsburgh, allowing our team to work closely with Charles Street Realty Partners to fully bring their vision for this location to life.
An urban oasis
Located near renowned institutions such as Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, the property appeals to a wide range of demographics, from graduate and medical students seeking a vibrant atmosphere beyond dorm life, to young professionals, families, and empty-nesters.
While situated outside the hustle and bustle of downtown, Shadyside offers a highly walkable environment that is an intermediate neighborhood between urban and suburban.
A neighborhood hub under one roof
Upon entering the building, residents are greeted with a welcoming lobby space, lounge, family room area, and fitness center. Other amenities for residents include a pet spa, bike room, courtyard, and convenient underground parking to further enhance the living experience at Industry Pittsburgh. Six additional floors of 20 units types stack atop the ground floor.
A warm welcome
A central entry along Center Avenue welcomes visitors with a grand glass façade that floods the lobby and leasing space with natural light. This inviting entrance activates the streetscape and sets the tone for a warm, engaging arrival experience.
A signature element of Industry properties is the large, waterfall-style wood welcome desk in the lobby. This striking feature serves as a secondary touchpoint for leasing staff—ideal for casual, informal conversations with prospective tenants. It complements the adjacent dedicated leasing office, offering a more relaxed, hospitality-inspired experience reminiscent of a boutique hotel lobby.
Socialize and work in style
The lounge boasts a vintage-inspired eclectic design, blending textured layers and warm elements like a vintage rug and velvet seating into the grouping. The space accommodates multiple groups with features such as cozy couches, a central lounge area, and a banquette with tables for coworking, gaming, or socializing.
Custom millwork along one wall creates individual coworking stations with vertical slat detailing and integrated lighting, offering a private work nook that strategically divides the lounge from the lobby to provide a sense of privacy away from property management staff.
Located next to the lounge is a large exterior courtyard, which serves as an extension of the amenity space. Grill stations, a fire pit as well as an exterior ping pong table are additional amenities that help enhance the experience for residents and their guests.
An elevated wellness experience
With its impressive two-story volume and incredible natural light, the fitness center space feels airy and grand, providing an open, expansive environment that balances the scale of large fitness equipment and multiple residents utilizing the space at the same time, ensuring it never feels cramped.
Striking wood slat details that are an extension of the millwork package and create a warm focal element in the space. The pendant lighting, warm wood tones, and expansive natural light create an elevated fitness experience that is reminiscent of a spa boutique fitness studio, making this space a destination for residents of all fitness levels.
Custom & curated signage
Designed by Sketch Blue, custom environmental graphics and signage seamlessly integrate with the building’s distinct design language. Interior finishes are reinterpreted with vertical wood slats serving as a key motif throughout. Wood slat wayfinding elements help orient tenants and visitors to various spaces adjacent to the amenity area.
To identify unit entry points, accent paint and custom signage were added to create visual emphasis on each tenants' door. Custom designed unit entry signage identifies each individual unit while providing visual interest that is consistent with the brand language.
A lofty space to entertain
The seven floors offer 20 different unit types that vary in size and configuration. From cozy, compact studio units to expansive, two-story lofts with stunning views and natural light, there’s a space for every lifestyle.
Townhome loft units, with bedrooms overlooking open kitchen and living areas, offer an upscale, condo-like experience.
